Auditions for The Nutcracker will be held on Saturday, August 27 at the Duan Smith Auditorium. Pre-registration for auditions is available through our online registration system at www.danceartslosalamos.org. We encourage you to pre-register! You must be registered for at least one DALA fall class to be eligible to audition and perform in the Nutcracker. All dancers in The Nutcracker agree to follow the DALA Code of Conduct during rehearsals and performances.
A 15-minute meeting for all new Nutcracker dancers and their parents will be held at 1:15 pm in the Duane Smith Auditorium on audition day. Important information about casting, rehearsal schedules and policies, performances, and volunteer opportunities will be presented at this time. Please contact the office prior to the auditions if extenuating circumstances prevent your attendance at the meeting.
DALA dancers age 5 and up may audition. Everyone who auditions will be cast. At the discretion of the choreographers, young dancers age 5-6 may be cast in Nuts, Crackers and Sweets instead of The Nutcracker. More information about that performance opportunity will be available at auditions.

A performance fee of $150 is due for each dancer at auditions. This fee covers the studio’s costs for development of choreography, three months of instruction and rehearsal time, and costumes and properties associated with the performance. Please make checks payable to “Dance Arts Los Alamos” and indicate “Nutcracker Performance Fee” on the check.

Rehearsals for Nutcracker will begin Sept. 6th. The rehearsal schedule for the month of September will be made available when the cast list is released on Friday September 2nd. Please note the times and locations of each rehearsal for your dancer. Attendance at all rehearsals is mandatory. Missing a rehearsal creates difficulties for the choreographer, the absent dancer, and the other cast members.

Excused absences may be arranged with the choreographers in advance; however, extensive absences could result in missed rehearsal fee charges of up to $50 per missed rehearsal. If illness or other extenuating circumstances require you to miss a rehearsal please email office@danceartslosalamos.org to report the absence as well as the reason for the absence.

The Nutcracker performances are Friday, Dec. 2nd at 7:00 pm, Saturday, Dec. 3rd at 2:00 pm, and Sunday, Dec. 4th at 2:00 pm. There will be an all cast rehearsal on Sunday Nov. 6th in the Duane Smith Auditorium. Tech week rehearsals will run from Nov. 28th thru Dec. 1st in the evenings. More information about the Tech Week rehearsals will be available in late October. There will be rehearsals the weekend before Thanksgiving and the schedule will be available no later then mid-October. No rehearsals are scheduled during the Thanksgiving holiday break from Wednesday, November 24th, through Sunday, November 27th. All dancers must attend all three performances, the November 6th, and Tech Week rehearsals.

Dance Arts Los Alamos is a non-profit organization led by volunteers. Hundreds of volunteer hours are needed to produce The Nutcracker. Sign up early for the volunteer slots where you can make the biggest difference! In addition, families of young children who will be based in the choir room during production week are required to provide a volunteer for at least one evening. Finally, The Nutcracker is not only an exciting performance opportunity for our dancers, but DALA’s biggest, and typically only, fundraiser. Everyone who is watching the show including parents, volunteers, family, faculty and board members will need to purchase a ticket. Tickets will be available to purchase from DALA, CB Fox and the Smith’s in White Rock in advance or at the door on performance days; you will not be allowed entry or re-entry into the auditorium without a ticket (or ticket stub).
